On February 2nd, 2024, the Pithoragarh Group of Institutions (PGI) welcomed a distinguished guest: Mrs. Vibha Yadav, Civil Judge Senior Division and Secretary DLSA, Pithoragarh. Her presence graced an interactive session aimed at educating and empowering students and faculty, particularly women, on the critical issues of sexual harassment and cyber crimes.
Judge Yadav shed light on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, also known as the POSH Act. This act serves as a vital tool for addressing workplace sexual harassment faced by women. Through comprehensive explanations, she equipped the audience with the necessary knowledge to identify and combat such situations.
Beyond the POSH Act, Judge Yadav empowered the female students and faculty by outlining their rights and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) applicable in cases of sexual harassment. This knowledge empowers them to take necessary legal action should they ever face such violations.
Recognizing the growing prevalence of cyber crimes, Judge Yadav also addressed this crucial topic. By raising awareness about various forms of cyber crimes, she equipped the audience with valuable knowledge to protect themselves online.
The session’s core objective was to empower students and female faculty by equipping them with the knowledge and understanding of their rights and legal remedies in situations of sexual harassment and cyber crimes. This knowledge empowers them to fight against these issues and contributes to building a safer society for all.
