Community Health Camp at Rajkeeya Inter College, Dharchula
PGI College Pithoragarh Strengthens Community Healthcare Through Free Health Camp
On 08 January 2026, PGI College Pithoragarh successfully organised a Community Health Camp at Rajkeeya Inter College, Dharchula, in collaboration with Prime Hospital. The initiative reflected PGI’s strong commitment to community outreach, preventive healthcare, and experiential learning for nursing students.
The health camp was conducted from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and witnessed active participation from local residents. Through this initiative, essential healthcare services were made accessible to people in the region, helping them understand their health conditions and receive timely medical support.

Active Participation of BSc Nursing Students
Students of the BSc Nursing program at PGI College Pithoragarh played a key role in the successful execution of the health camp. Under the guidance of medical professionals and faculty members, students gained hands-on experience by interacting with patients, conducting basic examinations, and assisting doctors in providing care.
Such community-based programs are an integral part of nursing education at PGI, ensuring students develop not only clinical skills but also compassion, communication abilities, and a strong sense of social responsibility.

Healthcare Services Provided at the Camp
The health camp offered a wide range of free medical services, ensuring comprehensive care for people of all age groups. Services provided during the camp included:
Distribution of general medicines
General surgery check-ups
Orthopaedic consultations
Head-to-toe physical examinations
Screening, diagnosis, and treatment for hypertension and diabetes
These services helped identify health issues at an early stage and guided patients toward appropriate care and lifestyle changes.
Promoting Preventive and Accessible Healthcare
One of the key objectives of the health camp was to promote preventive healthcare and raise awareness about common lifestyle-related diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Many participants were able to learn about their health status for the first time, enabling them to take informed steps toward better health.
By offering all services free of cost, PGI College Pithoragarh ensured that financial barriers did not prevent community members from accessing essential medical care.
Learning Beyond Classrooms: Community-Based Education
Community health camps serve as an important bridge between academic learning and real-world application. For PGI nursing students, this initiative provided valuable exposure to:
Community health assessment
Patient communication and counselling
Basic clinical procedures in real settings
Teamwork and ethical healthcare practices
Such experiences prepare students to handle real-life healthcare challenges with confidence and empathy.
