BSc Nursing Students at PGI Pithoragarh Champion Holistic Approach to Leprosy on World Leprosy Day

PGI College, Pithoragarh, recently hosted a powerful symposium organized by its BSc Nursing students to commemorate World Leprosy Day. The event centered around the theme “Breaking the Stigma: Advancements in Leprosy Detection, Treatment, and Rehabilitation” highlighted the medical advancements in combating this disease and the crucial social and psychological aspects of leprosy care.
The symposium delved into a range of critical topics, offering a comprehensive overview of the current state of leprosy:
- Global and National Leprosy Statistics: Students presented data on the prevalence and distribution of leprosy, providing context for the ongoing fight against the disease.
- Early Detection and Diagnosis: The symposium showcased advancements in medical technology and fieldwork that have significantly improved early detection and diagnosis of leprosy.
- Treatment Protocols and Challenges: Discussions focused on the effectiveness of multi-drug therapy (MDT) and explored strategies to overcome challenges related to treatment adherence.

The BSc nursing students of 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 & 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁(𝗣𝗜𝗧𝗠), 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲(𝗣𝗜𝗕𝗦), 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴(𝗣𝗖𝗡) 𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐡 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐎𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (𝐏𝐆𝐈), 𝐁𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚, 𝐏𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐡 went beyond simply presenting information. Through engaging charts and informative leaflets, they explored the historical beliefs and theories surrounding leprosy, illustrating the significant progress made in societal understanding and treatment of the disease. This historical perspective offered valuable insights into the evolution of leprosy care.
The symposium proved a resounding success, raising awareness and promoting a holistic approach to tackling leprosy. It underscored the commitment of PGI College, Pithoragarh, to training compassionate and knowledgeable future healthcare professionals.
