On 26th August 2025, PGI College, Pithoragarh organized an awareness program on “Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace (PoSH Act 2013)”, led by the Civil Judge of Pithoragarh, Mrs. Manju Devi.
The primary objective of the session was to create awareness among students and staff regarding the protection of women against sexual harassment at workplaces and to ensure a safe, inclusive, and enabling environment in academic and professional institutions.
Overview of the Session
Mrs. Manju Devi highlighted the importance of the PoSH Act, 2013, and guided participants through the process of filing and addressing complaints under this law. The session aimed to strengthen the knowledge of students and employees regarding their rights, responsibilities, and redressal mechanisms.
Complaint Process under PoSH Act 2013
The Civil Judge explained the step-by-step procedure for filing a complaint:
1️⃣ Who can complain? – Any aggrieved woman.
2️⃣ How to complain? – In writing to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).
3️⃣ Timeline – Within 3 months from the date of the incident (or last incident in a series).
4️⃣ Assistance – ICC will assist if the complainant cannot write.
5️⃣ Time Extension – ICC may extend the timeline by up to 3 months if justified.
Responsibilities of Employers
Mrs. Manju Devi also emphasized the responsibilities of employers and institutions under the PoSH Act, including:
- Organizing regular workshops and awareness programs.
- Ensuring that all employees and students are aware of the Act’s provisions.
- Acting promptly on recommendations of the ICC to ensure justice and remedies.
Student Participation
As part of the initiative, students of PGI Pithoragarh filled out the ‘Vividh Jagrukta Shivir’ forms provided by the High Court of India, formally registering themselves as participants and supporters of the Act.

The awareness drive proved to be a significant and impactful initiative for the institution. It not only informed participants about their legal rights and protections but also reinforced PGI’s commitment to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all.
