Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand — In a heartfelt celebration of Harela, the festival of greenery and environmental awareness, PGI College Pithoragarh embraced sustainability with a meaningful tree plantation drive organized on campus. The event not only marked the festive occasion but also underscored the institution’s commitment to environmental conservation, community leadership, and student engagement.

The Green Initiative Begins

Harela, a traditional festival celebrated across Kumaon and other parts of Uttarakhand, signifies the onset of the monsoon season and encourages people to plant trees and reconnect with nature. Staying true to this spirit, the PGI campus transformed into a hub of environmental action as students, faculty, and dignitaries came together to plant a variety of fruit-bearing trees, symbolizing hope, sustainability, and growth.

Inauguration by the Administrative Director

The initiative was formally inaugurated by Mrs. Geeta Lohiya, Administrative Director of PGI Pithoragarh. During her address, she emphasized the importance of preserving our natural ecosystem, urging students to become lifelong advocates of eco-friendly practices. Her inspiring words served as a call to action for the young minds to take small but significant steps towards environmental betterment.

“Events like Harela are not just celebrations—they are a reminder that the responsibility to care for the Earth lies in our hands,” she said.

Collaboration with DSC Milam Coy-130 ETF Group

Adding prestige and strength to the occasion, PGI was honored by the participation of the DSC Milam Coy-130 ETF Group, led by CHM Kesav Prasad. Sepoy Diwan Singh Bisht, Mahipal Singh Bisht, Surender Singh Bisht, and Darshan Singh joined the plantation activity, working side-by-side with students to make the drive a success.

Their presence highlighted the importance of civil-military collaboration for social causes and inspired students to actively contribute to nation-building efforts beyond the classroom.

Tree Plantation Drive: A Symbol of Growth

An impressive number of trees, especially fruit plants, were planted throughout the campus. These trees not only enhance the natural beauty of the surroundings but also serve as a living legacy of sustainability for future batches of students.

This initiative fostered hands-on environmental learning and created a deep connection between students and ecological responsibility—aligning perfectly with PGI’s mission to develop socially conscious professionals.

Toward a Sustainable Future

This Harela celebration was more than just a ceremonial observance—it was a genuine pledge to sustainability. By empowering students through action-oriented events like this, PGI Pithoragarh continues to lead the way in eco-conscious education in Uttarakhand.

PGI believes in nurturing not just future professionals, but future guardians of the environment.

The college plans to hold more such green events, awareness programs, and sustainability initiatives throughout the academic year, ensuring environmental values are deeply embedded in its educational ecosystem.
