Having closely observed the struggles faced by students in the hills—limited access to quality education, lack of professional training, and the constant pressure to migrate in search of better opportunities—he recognized the urgent need to bring about meaningful change.

With over 40 years of dedicated service in the field of education, including his tenure as Joint Director in the Uttarakhand Education Department, the Late Shri N.L. Haneri envisioned an institution that would uplift and empower the youth of the Kumaon region. Having closely observed the struggles faced by students in the hills—limited access to quality education, lack of professional training, and the constant pressure to migrate in search of better opportunities—he recognized the urgent need to bring about meaningful change.
This vision led to the establishment of PGI College, Pithoragarh—the first institution in the region to focus on professional and job-oriented courses, tailored to match the evolving needs of the modern job market. More than just a college, PGI was built as a mission to make education practical, affordable, and accessible to every student, particularly those from remote and underserved areas.
Late Shri N.L. Haneri believed that true development begins when opportunities are created at the grassroots level—when local youth are empowered to grow and thrive without having to leave their homes.

Inspired by their father, Late Mr. N.L. Haneri (Retired Joint Director, Uttarakhand Education Department), and driven by a passion for social development, Jitendra Haneri and Dharmendra Haneri returned to their roots in Pithoragarh with a mission to transform education in the hills. Their vision was not just to establish an institution but to create opportunities that empower local youth and contribute to the socio-economic growth of Uttarakhand.
