Awareness of pulses is essential because they not only contain protein, fiber, and other nutrients, but they also help people with diabetes maintain optimal blood glucose and insulin levels. Additionally, pulses have the ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen in the soil, increasing soil fertility. Pulses, which contain Rhizobium bacteria in their root nodules, can supply 30 to 400 gm/ha of nitrogen to the soil. Thus, pulse crops are vital for crop rotation and nitrogen restoration in the soil.
